Lighting the Candle of Joy

In this season of waiting, may we know God’s patience. In this season of demands, may we know God’s purpose. In this season of expectations, may we know God’s kindness.

In this season of sharing, may we know God’s generosity. In this time of worship, may we know, feel and share the joy of God and may we hear in old familiar ways and fresh new ways Jesus is Joy to the World!

Prayer for Illumination

Gracious God, as with Scripture and song we journey with you to Bethlehem’s stable and a new-born King, keep our ears attuned to the song of angels, our eyes alert for Bethlehem’s star and our hearts aflame with the hope, peace, joy and love that are ours and ours to share in Christ.  As we hear of the promise of a Saviour who is Christ the Lord, may we rejoice! Prayers of The People/The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Commissioning

This Advent-time we remember Mary and Joseph, and all who having received Good News sought in all ways to be the same. We give thanks for their faithfulness, courage and obedience, stepping out each day into the unknown in the strength of the Spirit. May we now play our part in the fulfilment of God’s plan to bring joy to the world. May the pattern of our lives shine the light of Christ to one, to all, in our small corner and from there to eternity.

Benediction

Postlude: Mendelssohn   arr. J. Innes

We gather on the traditional territory of the Wendat, the Anishnaabeg and the Haudenosaunee Peoples. We are also on lands that are part of the Dish with One Spoon Wampum. We live and work, worship, learn and meet on lands that are the traditional territory of many different Indigenous Peoples who were here before the establishment of European colonies.
