Prayer of Adoration and Confession

792 Let us hope when hope seems hopeless

(Beech Spring #262)

Story:  What’s in Your Wallet?

Prayer for Illumination:

Gracious God, God of wisdom, truth and love, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit. Help is to hear your living Word as the Bible is shared and its Good News of Jesus proclaimed. Amen.

Psalm 71: 1 - 9

I’ve taken refuge in you, Lord.

Don’t let me ever be put to shame!

Deliver me and rescue me by your righteousness!

Bend your ear toward me and save me!

Be my rock of refuge, where I can always escape.

You commanded that my life be saved

because you are my rock and my fortress.

My God, rescue me from the power of the wicked;

rescue me from the grip of the wrongdoer and the oppressor

because you are my hope, Lord.

You, Lord, are the one I’ve trusted since childhood.

I’ve depended on you from birth —

you cut the cord when I came from my mother’s womb.

My praise is always about you.

I’ve become an example to many people

because you are my strong refuge.

My mouth is filled with your praise,

    glorifying you all day long.

Don’t cast me off in old age.

Don’t abandon me when my strength is used up!

1 Corinthians 13: 4 - 13

Love is patient, love is kind, it isn’t jealous, it doesn’t brag, it isn’t arrogant, it isn’t rude, it doesn’t seek its own advantage, it isn’t irritable, it doesn’t keep a record of complaints, it isn’t happy with injustice, but it is happy with the truth. Love puts up with all things, trusts in all things, hopes for all things, endures all things.

Love never fails. As for prophecies, they will be brought to an end. As for tongues, they will stop. As for knowledge, it will be brought to an end. We know in part and we prophesy in part; but when the perfect comes, what is partial will be brought to an end.

When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, reason like a child, think like a child. But now that I have become a man, I’ve put an end to childish things. Now we see a reflection in a mirror; then we will see face-to-face. Now I know partially, but then I will know completely in the same way that I have been completely known. Now faith, hope, and love remain — these three things —and the greatest of these is love.

Luke 5:  27 - 32

Jesus went out and saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at a kiosk for collecting taxes. Jesus said to him, “Follow me.”

Levi got up, left everything behind, and followed him.  Then Levi threw a great banquet for Jesus in his home. A large number of tax collectors and others sat down to eat with them.  The Pharisees and their legal experts grumbled against his disciples. They said, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

Jesus answered, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor, but sick people do.  I didn’t come to call righteous people but sinners to change their hearts and lives.”

Sermon: I’m Going To Show You an Even better Way

We gather on the traditional territory of the Wendat, the Anishnaabeg and the Haudenosaunee Peoples. We are also on lands that are part of the Dish with One Spoon Wampum. We live and work, worship, learn and meet on lands that are the traditional territory of many different Indigenous Peoples who were here before the establishment of European colonies.
