Search for New Ruling Elders

The Session has formed a Nominating Team to oversee the calling forth of new active ruling elders to serve on the Session of St. Andrew’s. Team members are ruling elders Nicki Groenewegen, Henry Muth, Clerk of Session Nancy Nicol, and Minister in Residence Kirk Summers.

This Nominating Team is responsible for helping the Session and congregation discern who in our congregation might be approached to consider the calling to ruling eldership on the Session. To assist the Nominating Team with their work, professing members of the congregation will be invited to submit nominations in writing via the Survey link below, or in-person by submitting a paper nomination to the Clerk of Session, c/o the Church Office, using the forms you can find in the office. A person can make as many nominations as they desire. Self-nominations will be accepted. It is important to seek the consent of the person being nominated.

Nominations will commence this Sunday, March 16th, and close on Sunday, April 6th. A congregational meeting to consider the approval of the slate of ruling elders which will emerge is set for May 25th.

Who should I nominate to be an Elder?

In considering these gifts, it is understood that we are on a journey together and as such are growing in our giftedness. An elder is a person who:

  • is free to meet regularly.

  • can see the ‘big picture’ of life in the church. This person can answer, ‘What is best for the whole congregation?’

  • is good at discerning the character of other people, who understands systems and how they work, who has a good knowledge of leadership styles and when they are needed for specific tasks.

  • is grounded in and respectful of the Reformed faith, tradition, and government, even though they may not have grown up in that tradition.

  • conducts their private and public life as becomes a follower of Jesus.
