Call to Worship and Prayer of Approach
Friends in Christ, on this Remembrance Sunday
we remember the past, grasp the present, and look to the future.
On this day when long ago the guns fell silent,
we come before God, seeking peace.
On this day of hope in the face of anguish and terror,
we come before God, praying with all our hearts:
Dear God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come,
open the eyes of all hearts to commit to a kinder path through the disagreements in this world.
Praying so, we confess our sin against you, creation, neighbour and self.
Forgive and reconcile us to be people of compassion, tolerance and care.
May we catch a vision of how all people can beautifully live together, and make it real, living as you created us to live.
Loving God, steadfast and sure, looking to Jesus, make us channels of your peace. Amen.

Opening Words: We Remember
Remembrance Day
a poem by Julia Mederak (John Sweeney Catholic School, Kitchener)
Decades ago, in a far away land,
footprints were made in the dirt and the sand.
Soldiers had left them as they marched and they ran
towards untold dangers their weapons in hand.
They fought far from home, left loved ones behind,
their families were worried with no peace of mind.
They fought to protect us, our freedoms to keep;
explosions and gunfire kept them from sleep.
We will always remember for what they have done;
the sacrifices given, the battles they’ve won,
the hardships they’ve suffered, the lives that were lost;
the grief of their families was at too high a cost.
We celebrate Remembrance Day, we honour the vet;
our heads bowed in silence, lest we forget.

Prayer
In Flanders Fields
Choral Setting by E. Daley
Words by John McCrae
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
The Reading of Names
They were bound by suffering for the pursuit of a higher good
The Tryst
They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
we will remember them.
We will remember them.

We gather on the traditional territory of the Wendat, the Anishnaabeg and the Haudenosaunee Peoples. We are also on lands that are part of the Dish with One Spoon Wampum. We live and work, worship, learn and meet on lands that are the traditional territory of many different Indigenous Peoples who were here before the establishment of European colonies.
